The best way to get inside Cathy Ladman's head is to see her live. As one of the country's top comedians, Ladman's show is a self-probing vehicle which draws laughter from exposing personal neuroses. She has not only appeared on The Tonight Show nine times but was also the only female comic to appear on the last two of Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show Anniversary shows. She’s made four appearances, thus far, on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, did her own HBO One Night Stand comedy special and was awarded the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand Up Comic.

Cathy's comedy focuses on family, growing up, relationships, and real life from a very personal perspective. The Los Angeles Times put it best: "... Ladman has such clever, well-written material and such a breezy, unassuming delivery that it would be easy to overlook just how good she is: Her act seems effortless."

Check out Cathy on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon here!

The School of Dance and the School of Music will collaborate on a spectacular Spring Dance event that will also serve as the final UNCSA Symphony Orchestra performance of the year.

Students from both the ballet and contemporary programs will perform, along with student musicians. The first half of the program will feature premieres by UNCSA alumni, including two premieres of contemporary dance by Peter Pucci (B.F.A. ‘81) and Trey McIntyre (H.S. Diploma ‘78), as well as a new ballet work by Jim Vincent (Dance ’78).

After intermission, the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra will perform Anna Clyne’s Masquerade, which was inspired by mid-18th century promenade concerts held in London that included acrobatics, street entertainers, dancers, fireworks and masquerades.

Stravinsky’s dazzling The Firebird, commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev for his Ballets Russes 1910 Paris season with original choreography by Michel Fokine, will conclude the program. The ballet will be set in a Caribbean environment where the magical firebird brings about a fairytale ending, with good triumphing over evil and promising a happily-ever-after. Music faculty member Mark A. Norman will conduct the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra.

Sponsored, in part, by the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts.

Book by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse
    Music by Richard Rodgers
    Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favorite Things, Do Re Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria, and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Runtime is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including Intermission.
    Appropriate for all ages.
