w/ Patricia WolfCS + KremeCS + Kreme are Conrad Standish and Sam Karmel – two Australians who record slow, hallucinatory experimental music. There was a meeting of minds at an intrepid friend’s day-party in Melbourne a few years back, then after one alchemic studio jam – the rest was history.Over the past few years, CS + Kreme have released a string of disparate records on DIY labels which share their ethos: Total Stasis, Wichelroede and the Trilogy Tapes. The latter collaborations with Will Bankhead have been the most prolific, his label becoming an unofficial home away from home for the duo. Issuing EPs Cold Shoulder in 2018, howwouldyoufeelwithoutthatthought, as well as the Snoopy LP to critical acclaim in 2020.Snoopy is their most comprehensive body of work to date. It connected deeply with people during the pandemic and polled high in various end of year lists with prominent electronic musical outlets such as Resident Advisor, XLR8R, Crack Magazine and Boomkat who dubbed it: “An absolute treasure of an album – a quietly seductive, deeply romantic and stealthily addictive long-player in the most classic, enduring sense.”Transcending style and space, CS + Kreme don’t follow a philosophy with making music, what they do is more fluid. Drawn like moths to the liminal state, they write slow and meditative “horizontal-music” which takes in heavy dub processing, sweeping post-punk and chamber music soundscapes, anchored around Standish’s leftfield bass guitar. In Karmel’s words, “Inherently, there are influences that come through without us even realising. It’s kind of that cliche where people put their two cents forward for what our influences are, but I don’t think we’ve set out to be like anyone or anything.”Both seasoned musicians, Standish and Karmel together hold a rich history of collaborations in successful experimental groups such as: F ingers, Bum Creek, Standish/Carlyon and Devastations, to name a few. Most recently they have collaborated with composer James Rushford who played portative organ on Snoopy and cellist Judith Hamann who contributed to “April Fools Day”, off howwouldyoufeelwithoutthatthought.Patricia WolfIn early 2020 CS + Kreme travelled to the UK for their first overseas performances together at The White Hotel in Manchester and a Trilogy Tapes showcase in London. They are currently writing the follow up to Snoopy and developing commissions for several European festivals, including Rewire (NL) and Berliner Festspiel (DE).Patricia Wolf is a musician, sound designer, and DJ residing in Portland, Oregon. Wolf uses electronics, voice, and field recordings to produce non-linear compositions that draw listeners to a hypnotic inner world. Her use of melody and repetition manipulate the listeners' perception of time, conjuring vivid textures, and atmospheres. Her debut album, I'll Look For You In Others was just released in February 2022 on Past Inside The Present and was quickly followed up by her 2nd LP See Through which was released in May 2022 on the Spanish label, Balmat. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. The Minus 5
The Minus 5 is an historical artifact that still cares.  Headed by Scott McCaughey, and in many cases Peter Buck of R.E.M. fame, plus Portland stars all: Casey Neill,  Jenny Conlee, Jimmy Talent, Paul Pulvirenti, etc.?  The DelinesThe Delines (Portland, Oregon) were formed in 2014 with Richmond Fontaine's Willy Vlautin, Sean Oldham and Freddy Trujillo along with the amazing vocals of Amy Boone from Austin's The Damnations. Their first album, Colfax, was an instant hit in Europe and appeared on over twenty top ten end of year lists in Europe and the US.The band added keyboardist and trumpeter Cory Gray and had their next album The Imperial ready for release in 2016 when Amy was tragically struck by a car. The band was sidelined for three years while she recuperated. In 2019 The Imperial was released and topped the UK Americana charts for two weeks leading to sold out UK and European tours.Their third album The Sea Drift will be released Feb 11th, 2022. Jealous Butcher Records, who are releasing the album in the US, have already begun a major promotional campaign to further introduce the band to US audiences. The Sea Drift will be released on Decor Records in UK and Europe. The Delines songwriter, Willy Vlautin is a published novelist with six books (Harper Collins) two of which have been made into feature films (Lean on Pete and The Motel Life). Willy has done spoken word tours across the US and has appeared at numerous Literary festivals (Texas Book Festival, Portland Book Festival, LitQuake, Tucson Book Festival, to mention a few). The Damnations toured the US tirelessly from the mid-90’s to 2007. Richmond Fontaine released ten studio albums and toured the US from the late 90’s till 2006. After that they were in such demand in Europe, they focused their touring energy there. They played sold out venues for nearly a decade and played to over a thousand people at their final London show. The Delines are perfect for small theaters but the band has played clubs across the world in Australia, Europe and the US including these festivals: Kilkenny Roots, Sligo Live, Imagine Arts, Crossing Border, Take Root, Under the Big Sky, Twangfest, End of the Road, Celtic Connections, Out on the Weekend…

“As cyborg-like TJ Thompson splits his body and mind between drums and electronics, vocalist Diana Oropeza conducts an exorcism of language, her torrent of words crashing into and arcing above the legible chaos summoned by her bandmate. It’s not noise. It’s not punk. It’s not poetry. It’s not rock 'n' roll. It’s all of those things. It’s none of those things. It’s something else entirely.” -Chris Stamm

AvolaVeronica “Vern” Avola is a composer, multimedia artist, instructor and champion of friendship, born in Italy and based in Portland, Oregon. She founded EMS Records.Avola’s solo sound works uses deep electronic sounds to geomap the hidden layers that also come with a given “present moment”; from the guttural subterranean or the hallways of the earthly punk and DIY culture to consensual abduction and flight. Avola’s compositions hold space for these physical stretches that become emblems of safety when society faces a truth in zero control within a political predestination. In this process Avola brings an ability back to the listener to think and exist outside of man’s algorithm.Avola performs this work internationally and has released several albums on Sige Recordings, An Out Recordings, Accident Prone Records, Gravity Records and Nadine Records. Les Filles de Illighadad (“daughters of Illighadad”) was founded in Illighadad, Niger in 2016 by solo guitarist Fatou Seidi Ghali and renowned vocalist Alamnou Akrouni. In 2017, they were joined by Amaria Hamadalher, a fixture on the Agadez guitar scene, and Abdoulaye Madassane, rhythm guitarist and a son of Illighadad. Les Filles de Illighadad’s music draws from two distinct styles of regional sound, ancient village choral chants and desert guitar. The result is a groundbreaking new direction for Tuareg folk music and a sound that resonates far outside of their village. In the past years, the band has toured nonstop, bringing their highly specific sound to distant corners of the globe.

Les Filles de Illighadad’s third full-length, At Pioneer Works, was recorded over two sold-out shows in Brooklyn, NY in Fall 2019 at the tail-end of two years of nonstop touring in support of the band’s 2017 album Eghass Malan. Writing about the shows for The New Yorker, music critic Amanda Petrusich writes: “The crowd in Brooklyn was entranced, nearly reverent. Les Filles’ music is mesmeric, almost prayer-like, which can leave an audience agog... whatever rhythm does to a human body—it was happening.”

At Pioneer Works is out on LP, CD, and digital from Sahel Sounds in collaboration with Pioneer Works Press.

w/ Mama Sam and The Jam & Alison SelfAshleigh Flynn & The RivetersAshleigh Flynn & The Riveters’ new album, Live from the Blue Moon, spotlights them in an ideal setting, sharing their freewheeling sound with an audience of admirers and indulging in the upbeat approach that’s characterized their cheery tunes since early on. Part bluegrass, part Americana and wholly down-home, they run through a set of songs made up of originals and a select collection of covers, including a cheery takes on the age-old country country classic “Tiger by the Tail” and Tom Petty’s aptly chosen “American Girl.” Not surprisingly then, there’s wit and whimsy at every turn. The Riveters, Flynn’s all-female band, take their name from Rosie and the Riveters, that group of women who assembled weapons of war in World War II, and indeed, this musical ensemble proves as adept as their forebears in crafting the tools of their trade. One need only listen to songs such as “Shrouded Sun,” “How the West Was Won” and “Deep River Hollow” to get a true sense of their ability and agility. Both upbeat and effusive, these talented ladies bring the house down while elevating the enthusiasm of all in attendance. That effusive feeling comes across throughout and, in turn, offers further cause for sheer celebration.ALL SALES ARE FINAL. PLEASE, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE PURCHASING. Rescheduled from 5/22/22w/ Isabeau Waia'u WalkerA cross-pollination of numerous influences, including cabaret, spaghetti Westerns, norteño, punk, and the immigrant dance music of Eastern Europe, Colorado-based quartet DeVotchKa, formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, trumpet),  Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, bass) and percussionist Shawn King, emerged as unlikely indie heroes in the mid-2000s infusing modern indie music with a global flavor. They found widespread success in 2006 with their Grammy-nominated soundtrack to the hit indie film Little Miss Sunshine. Signing with revered indie, Anti-, the band delivered A Mad and Faithful Telling in early 2008, reaching the number nine slot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. A lengthy world tour followed, including stops at major festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Bumbershoot. After doing more soundtrack work, this time for the 2009 comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, the group returned to the studio for 2011’s moody and triumphant 100 Lovers. Embarking on another world tour, they collaborated with the Colorado Symphony on the 2012 concert album Live with the Colorado Symphony. Over the next several years, Urata became increasingly involved in his own film composition career, scoring movies like Crazy Stupid Love, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Paddington, and the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meanwhile, the band regrouped for a lengthy recording session, eventually returning in 2018 with their sixth album, This Night Falls Forever, this time via Concord Records.ALL SALES ARE FINAL. w/ Coral GriefChastity Belt’s energy is like a circuit, circling around the silly and the sincere. Tongue-in-cheek shit-shooting and existential rumination feed into each other infinitely. Theirs is a long-term relationship, and that loop sustains them. That’s a creative thesis in and ofitself, but isn’t that also just the mark of a true-blue friendship?

The band talks a lot about intention these days—how to be more present with each other. The four piece—Julia Shapiro (vocals, guitar, drums), Lydia Lund (vocals, guitar), Gretchen Grimm(drums, vocals, guitar) and Annie Truscott (bass)—is nine years deep in this, after all. It seems now, more than ever, that circuit is a movement of intentionality, one that creates a space inside which they can be themselves, among themselves. It’s a space where the euphoria of making music with your best friends is protected from the outside world’s churning expectations. It’s a kind of safe zone for the band to occupy as their best selves: a group of friends who love each other.

Their fourth record, Chastity Belt, comes out of that safe space. After a restorative few months on hiatus in 2018, each member worked on solo material or toured with other bands. “So much of the break was reminding ourselves to stay present, and giving ourselves permission to stopwithout saying when were gonna meet up again,” says guitarist Lydia Lund. “It was so important to have that—not saying, ‘we’re gonna get back together at this point,’ but really just open it up so we could get back to our present connection.”

Their experience navigating adult life within the strange seasons of the music industry has Chastity Belt orienting themselves towards whatever gets them to feel the most present with each other, in any part of the band grind. With the luxury of spending several weeks in the studio with Jay Som’s Melina Duterte, Chastity Belt was able to experiment. The new self-titled album is the work of the band playing “Old songs, and trying new things on top of it,” like adding more dynamic harmonies and violin, says bassist Annie Truscott. Lydia, Gretchen, and Julia all share lead vocals on different tracks on the album. The result is their most sonically developed and nuanced record yet; one that’s not only a product of, but a series of reflections on what it means to take what you need and to understand yourself better.

Many of Chastity Belt’s signature dynamics, from the silly to the sincere, have read as feminist gestures: the Cool Slut DGAF-iness, the shrugging off of the “women in rock” press gargle, the fundamentally punk act of creating music on your own as a woman, and being lyrically forthright. What the making of Chastity Belt reveals is that the band has tapped into a deeper tradition of women making art on their terms: the act of self-preservation in favor of the long game. In favor of each other. In this cultural moment, taking space like this to prioritize the love over the product seems progressive. Chastity Belt’s intentions have resulted in an album deeply expressive of four people’s commitment to what they love most: making music with each other.

w/ John Andrews and the YawnsWhen Martin Courtney was a teenager, he knew how to get lost. In the late ‘90s and early 2000s, there’s Martin, 17 or 18, loaded into a car with friends, stoned and aimless. They’re navigating the suburban sprawl of New Jersey with no destination in mind. It’s a densely settled wooded area, Courtney explains. “There’s so many towns you can drive for 15 minutes and have no clue where you are,” he says, sitting in his home studio in Beacon, New York, where he wrote the songs that make up Magic Sign, the second solo album from the Real Estate songwriter. It opens with “Corncob,” an ode to those bygone nights. “20 minutes from your house/There are places you don’t know/Problem is if you find them/You’ll have no place else to go,” he sings over a gentle psychedelic guitar wash. When Courtney was young, he and his friends would “get thoroughly confused and look for familiar green signs with arrows pointing to towns we’d heard of,” Courtney says. “We’d call them ‘magic signs.’”That’s the thing about magic: when you go looking for it, you start to see it everywhere. And you can hear it twinkingly throughout the 10 songs on Magic Sign. Written throughout 2020 and 2021, the album came together late at night, while Courtney’s kids slept upstairs and his wife workedovernight shifts at the hospital, a role reversal from his former days out on tour while she stayed home with their family. “I used to sit and think of you/I’d write a song or two/And passing the fleeting hours,”he sings of those days on the tender “Living Rooms,” which documents the domestic scenes that accompanied his nights writing.Just like when he was a kid, Courtney didn’t set out to find a whole record, he just wandered and let the signs guide him. Eventually, those imaginary directional arrows took him from his home base to Silent Partner in Philadelphia, PA, where he laid down basic tracks with Matt Barrick of The Walkmen, then back home to expand and develop the tunes, and then to Los Angeles, where he decamped to Mant Sounds to record with Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith/Kurt Vile) before engaging in bicoastal late night mixing sessions with the producer. Nostalgia is naturally woven into Courtney’s sensibility. “I was singing about the good old days even on the first Real Estate album,” he laughs, noting that the “old days” were only two or three years ago at that point. Courtney doesn’t spend the entire record looking back—many of these are his most present tense to date—but a youthful exuberance does propel it forward. Courtney notes that he imagined the songs emerging in a post-pandemic world, providing a soundtrack for better days of relief and optimism. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. w/ Casey NeillCrossing borders, jumping barriers, taking risks, betting it all: that’s the path Alejandro Escovedo has been taking in his lifelong search for the heart of rock and roll. The epic 17 song suite comprising The Crossing is about that journey: searching, but not necessarily finding, eyes and ears open all the way. Ranging from sweeping orchestral numbers to classic rock to bursts of 70s punk, the collection finds Escovedo delving further into his lifelong musical journey across his most sonically diverse work yet.“This says more about me than any of my records without it being a record about me,” Alejandro Escovedo , “The Crossing”The Crossing tells the tale of two boys, one from Mexico, one from Italy, who meet in Texas to chase theirAmerican rock and roll dreams. They discover a not-so-welcoming, very different place from the PromisedLand they imagined, with cameos from the likes of Wayne Kramer of the MC5 and James Williamson of the Stooges to show the boys the wayA Mexican-American kid with Texas roots and California raising taking on immigration issues in two continents with an Italian band, no less, makes perfect sense—if you know Alejandro Escovedo. Forever the curious explorer, he’s been a punk of the rebel kind in The Nuns, a cowpunk of the non-Western variety in Rank and File, commander of a guitar army in The True Believers, an orchestral conductor in his solo work, and a sensitive boy who has outrun death, demons, lust, and lost love in his songs. He has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, John Cale, Los Lobos, Peter Buck & Scott McCaughey, Los Texmaniacs, and Chuck Prophet. No Depression magazine declared him the Artist of the Decade. Two years ago, with a string of European tour dates booked, he went looking for a band from theContinent to back him up. The stories Alejandro Escovedo has been telling about the great migration across North America over the past 150 years mirrors stories that have been playing out for centuries in Europe, Africa, and the MiddleEast.“It’s ancient,” he says. “It’s been going on for centuries. It’s encoded in the DNA of all of us.”The stories and the melding of music led the band and the artist to extend the collaboration into the studio. “I started developing this idea where a young boy from southern Italy named Salvo and a young boy from Mexico named Diego would meet in South Texas,” Alejandro says. “They were looking for theAmerica they had heard about, seen in films, heard on records,” he says. “They go looking for the MC5, the Stooges, the Dolls, the Ramones, all the American bands that they love. They go looking for the authors, Kerouac and Ginsberg.” Without saying it, they come across a very conservative America. “They find they are in a different America, one that wasn’t as open and free as they had believed it was going tobe.” But the story is not just that of Diego andSalvo, it also mirrors that of Alejandro and the co-writer of his songs Antonio Gramentieri.ALL SALES ARE FINAL. w/ DoublePlusGood & Seance Crasher Camp CrushCamp Crush is an indie pop duo out of Portland, OR. Formed by singer/keyboardist Jen Deale and drummer Chris Spicer, the husband-and-wife band launched onto the northwest music scene with their vocal-forward synth-rich pop tunes and dynamic live performance. The next year found them opening for I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, The Dears, The Jacks and The Slants, as well as touring the Northwest and Alaska. After the release of several singles and their first EP, they began collaborating with grammy-nominated engineer & producer Rian Lewis (Doja Cat, Gorillaz, Chromeo, Louis the Child, D.R.A.M.), working together to release two more EPs in 2019, including songs ‘Fireflies’ and ‘I Would Run’, both featured on PDX Pop Now compilations. The group is set to release their 4th EP this summer.Deale and Spicer met in Portland, OR in 2010 and discovered their shared love for the songwriting of bands like The Cure, New Order, Berlin and the National. Their new EP, releasing July 2022, channels these influences and works to integrate their perspective to create something unique. Happy Mag describes them best: “The duo glide through a cinematic brand of indie-pop that is completely endearing and damn-near mesmerizing.”ALL SALES ARE FINAL. With the release of her newest album,Glade, Courtney takes us with her into a world of her own making, with songs about home and abiding; pulling out the marrow of what makes us good and what makes us kin. Written in the year following her return to a childhood home, the songs emanate from a place of quiet and sifting out.
