PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

When he died in 2017, Tom Petty left behind a lifetime of classic songs that are woven into the very fabric of popular culture. Those songs live on in Petty's dozens of albums, both as a solo artist and with the Heartbreakers, but now that the man himself is gone, so is the opportunity to experience him delivering them live to a crowd of adoring fans. But there is the next best thing: Southern Accents, the ultimate Tom Petty tribute band. Comprising six musicians from Nashville's rich music scene, Southern Accents have been bringing fans the Petty experience for the last three years, not only performing his timeless hits with exacting reverence but even looking and acting the part. The band loves the songs you love, of course, blockbuster hits like "American Girl" and "Refugee." But they also love the possibility of exposing their audiences to Petty songs they might not know, older rarities and obscure B-sides like "Honey Bee" and "Crawling Back to You."

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Since forming nearly 50 years ago, The Seldom Scene has brought both freewheeling joy and immaculate musicianship to their inventive take on bluegrass, offering up spirited interpretations of songs from limitless genres. On their new album Changes, the band sharpens their focus to a highly specific body of work: songs first recorded in the 1960s and very early ’70s, rooted in the archetypal storytelling of classic singer-songwriters. And in taking on the music of iconic artists like Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt, The Seldom Scene perform a sort of subtle magic: transforming the most stripped-bare songs into harmony-rich and elaborately arranged compositions, while wholly sustaining the charmed simplicity of each piece.Artist WebsiteLocal bluegrass band Wood Flower will open the show.Artist Website

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Bluegrass royalty Leigh and Eric Gibson step into what some might at first see as uncharted territory on their country-soul breakout Mockingbird, the latest album. The celebrated bluegrass duo — named back-to-back Entertainers of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2012 and 2013 — played the Nashville game two decades ago, while in their early 20s, and were offered a major label deal, only to be told at the last minute that they were too “retro” for modern country music. Today, such characterizations, along with their authenticity, set them apart. A mix of country, soul and seventies rock, the sibling duo are musical trailblazers. As players and vocalists, they are superb, harmonizing as only siblings can; as songwriters they stand without peer, having long been a band awarded for their songs and songwriting.

Eric Gales is a blues firebrand. Over 30 years and 18 albums, his passion for the music and his boundless desire to keep it vital has never waned, even when his own light dimmed due to his substance struggles. Throughout it all, he continued to reinvigorate the art form with personal revelation in his lyrics and bold stylistic twists in his guitar playing and songwriting.Five years sober, creatively rejuvenated, and sagely insightful, Eric is ready for the fight of his career. Aptly, he calls his masterful new album that was out in January 2022 I Want My Crown. The songs are delivered with clarity and feature Eric’s personal experiences and hope for positive change. In addition, the 16-track collection boasts his finest singing, songwriting, and his signature guitar playing that burns throughout. Produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith, this is Eric at his most boldly vulnerable, uncompromisingly political, and unflinchingly confident.

Singer and guitarist Jake Bracey has been a longtime bar musician. When playing cover after cover to drunken crowds wasn’t feeding the creative flow, a valve opened and original music came forth. 2019 brought the debut EP of Jake Bracey & The Mountain Laurels, a project fronted by Bracey along with a rotating cast of friends and collaborators. Created in Everloft Studios in the Philadelphia suburbs, 2019’s Asleep on a Highway was a testament to the band’s signature sound; a boozy, folk-twinged brand of music for lovers of a sad song. Artist Website

Singer-songwriter Dan May’s career path has taken more twists and turns than a corkscrew in a hurricane. He has worked as a grave-digger, television cameraman, short-order cook, nuclear missile security guard, gas station attendant, ice cream truck driver, ski-lift operator, factory worker, furniture delivery man, amusement park worker and greenhouse laborer; all before the age of 25. While studying music composition in college, he inadvertently stumbled upon an international opera career. Cut to 15 years later, and after a vocal cord surgery that left him no longer able to meet the demands of opera, Dan returned to doing what he does best; writing and performing his own songs. Since his crossover from classical to popular music, Dan has hit the ground running. With six critically acclaimed albums already under his belt, including his 2011 release "Dying Breed" making the Philadelphia Inquirer's list of "Top 10 Albums" of 2011. In 2016, Dan added "Author" to his list of credentials, with the release of his first book, "Adventures in Grocery Shopping," which made the Philadelphia Inquirer's list of "Best Books of 2016." Dan's live shows now include readings from both books in addition to singing songs off of his six albums. The readings have become a fan favorite and a staple of his live performances.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Only Nashville could give birth to a band like The SteelDrivers: a talented group of seasoned musicians – each distinguished in his or her own right. The group’s bluegrass roots combine with country and soul influences to create a refreshing, decidedly contemporary sound. This is new music with the old feeling. The SteelDrivers fan Vince Gill describes the band’s fusion as simply "an incredible combination."

The innovative, soulful bluegrass band The SteelDrivers – Tammy Rogers, Mike Fleming, Brent Truitt, and Richard Bailey – released The Muscle Shoals Recordings in 2015. The album quickly climbed the charts, reaching #1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Chart and achieving the highest first-week sales in band history. 2016 was a record year for The SteelDrivers, who won the 2016 Grammy award for “Best Bluegrass Album," received IBMA nominations for “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year" for "Long Way Down," which also reached #1 on the Bluegrass Today monthly chart. The SteelDrivers are currently playing sold-out shows at top venues and music festivals across the country on the Long Way Down Tour.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

With “a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms” (Boston Globe), Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s NYC- based chamber-pop group October Project, a band known for their lush harmonies, sweeping melodies and Fahl’s unique and powerful vocals. After two records on Epic, the band disbanded, but Fahl had more freedom to pursue her own muse, whether that meant writing and recording songs for movies (including the theme for the Civil War epic “Gods and Generals”), singing arias and medieval Spanish songs for Sony Classical or releasing a unique album-length take on “Dark Side of the Moon.”

Fahl’s music has a timeless quality that she conveys with earthy, viscerally powerful contralto that bridges the generational gap between Fairport Convention’s Sandy Denny and London Grammar’s Hannah Reid.

Now she returns with “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” a collection of songs that she calls “essential” to her development as an artist … “With all the madness that was happening in the world, I was grappling with the loss of my mother and sister this past year and was feeling completely rootless. In an effort to find an anchor, a link to the past, a sense of home, I began to immerse myself in the comfort of music from my youth. These were such essential songs for me… like old friends… my musical home in many ways. I fell in love with each of them at the quintessential coming-of-age moment when music goes straight into your heart with no filter and these songs became part of my musical DNA… I learned to play guitar with several of them – especially the early Neil Young songs. Most of these covers come from the first albums I ever bought using one of those Columbia House ‘get 12 free albums for a $1’ mail order programs. I played these records endlessly… and the lyrics on many of these songs still have a powerful resonance for me.”

After winning a Grammy for his soulful ballad “Walking in Memphis,” Marc Cohn solidified his place as one of this generation’s most compelling singer-songwriters, combining the precision of a brilliant tunesmith with the passion of a great soul man. Rooted in the rich ground of American rhythm and blues, soul and gospel and possessed of a deft storyteller’s pen, he weaves vivid, detailed, often drawn-from-life tales that evoke some of our most universal human feelings: love, hope, faith, joy, heartbreak. In 2019, Marc released a collaborative record with gospel legends Blind Boys of Alabama titled 'Work To Do’ which was released on BMG. 2019 was a busy year for Marc, consisting of 75 shows in about 65 cities. Moving forward, Marc continues to do what he does best: infuse American music with both a fresh perspective and a reverence for its deep roots.

In 2017, legend Richard Thompson gave himself up to the music itself. Picking up a guitar, emotions echoed through his deft fleet-fingered fretwork, poetic songwriting, impassioned picking. Those transmissions comprise his nineteenth solo album, 13 Rivers. Powered by evocative songcraft, jaw-dropping guitar playing, and indefinable spirit, this venerable icon holds a coveted spot on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and counts a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association in Nashville, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BBC Awards among his many accolades. Thompson’s influence can’t be overstated. Everybody from Robert Plant, Don Henley, and Elvis Costello to REM, Sleater-Kinney and David Byrne has covered his music.Artist Website

Nighthawks 50th Anniversary Release, “Established 1972”:  On this landmark anniversary, founder, lead singer, and harpmaster, Mark Wenner, is still at the helm, while drummer Mark Stutso, guitarist Dan Hovey and bassist Paul Pisciotta all share vocals and songwriting, making this lineup on the strongest ever. Decades of gigs and countless rabid fans have earned them the name “The Best Bar Band In The World.” More than a bar band or blues band, as they’re frequently labeled, this is a band that played with Carl Perkins in addition to Muddy Waters.

In March 2020, with a brand-new recording to promote, The Nighthawks did something previously unthinkable: They stopped in the middle of a Florida tour and drove home. Like so many other people, the band members found themselves out of work. Itching to play, The Nighthawks found a couple of spaces large enough to stay apart while woodshedding new material. Produced by The Nighthawks and longtime compadre, David Earl, they took advantage of the pandemic slowdown to hunker down in Earl’s Severn Sound Studios in Annapolis, Maryland and crank out fourteen new tracks in the class Nighthawks style.

In the tradition they set forth on Rock and Roll, the band’s debut 1974 recording and mission statement, the material is not bound by genre, other than the widest range of American Roots Music.
