PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
From Rochester, New York, King Buffalo is the trio of vocalist/guitarist Sean McVay, bassist Dan Reynolds, and drummer Scott Donaldson. Since forming in 2013, the self-proclaimed "heavy blues" band has made its name via 3 EPs, 2 Full-lengths, and tours with the likes of The Sword, All Them Witches, and Elder.

They will release their fourth EP, Dead Star, on March 20th via self-release throughout North America and European issue by Stickman Records.

Self-recorded in late 2019 and early 2020 Dead Star continues to push King Buffalo's psychedelic aspects deep into the cosmic ether, and basks in elements of ambient drone, space rock, prog, mantra-style heavy and synthesizer soundtracking, as well as the bluesy, classic riffing and creative urgency that has underscored their particular style since their 2013 demo and 2016 debut album, Orion.

"In the early stages of Dead Star, we made the decision to make a strong commitment to experimentation," explains guitarist/vocalist Sean McVay. "From exploring different time signatures, tunings and textures, to tweaking the song writing processes themselves. We're extremely proud of these recordings, and feel it's some of our most ambitious work yet."

Dead Star continues the risk-taking that fueled Repeater, honoring the core dynamic of King Buffalo as a band while boldly introducing new ideas and sides of their sound to their audience. When it was released ahead of their second full-length, Longing to Be the Mountain, it was an opportunity for the trio to explore new ideas and adventure into what at the time was new sonic terrain for the band. It smoothed the transition between 2016's Orion and the follow-up LP, and complemented both works.

Their new "short release," Dead Star, is more substantial. As in, it's 36 minutes long. From where I sit, that's an album one way or the other, and certainly the flow of its six tracks bears that out as well. But the function is similar to Repeater in that King Buffalo once again embrace their creative drive in an open and exciting way. The six songs of Dead Star are thrillingly progressive, taking on aspects of synth and new textures and atmospheres that enrich the band's core melodies and grooves so as to broaden their scope and make them all the more engrossing. Beginning with the 16-minute pair "Dead Star Pt. 1 & 2," and running through the finale closing track, Dead Star works to push the boundaries of expectation of what King Buffalo can accomplish as a band, and thereby accomplishes them as well.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Dance to their eclectic electro-funk, grind to their original R'n'B grooves, and sweat under the intense, penetrating gaze of frontman Dylan Charles Germick as he begs you, in all sincerity, to love yourself no matter what.

Conceived in Oakland, California by two Indiana brothers and their friends, Planet Booty first emerged in the late 00's as an eclectic 6-piece (or more) funk and soul dance band powerhouse preaching sweaty joy along the west coast. In 2014, singers Dylan Germick and Josh Cantero, along with bassist Rob Gwin, reinvented the group as a tour-focused trio with a tighter electrofunk sound and an even sexier, sweatier, more intimate message of positivity and inclusivity.

Since then Planet Booty has toured extensively throughout the United States, at club dates and festivals including SXSW and multiple Pride events, and have supported Lizzo, Ninja Sex Party, TWRP, Sisqo, Turquoise Jeep, Capital Cities, Escort, K Flay, and countless more. In 2019 Planet Booty released their fifth record, the Guilty Pleasure EP.

Raw Ramp: "An itch 'n' scratchy electro beat and young-funk in its heart." Broke Ass Stuart: "They had us laughing and dancing the entire time, the crowd was going nuts." Spinning Platters: "Dylan Germick is a true performer and every moment on stage he is there to entertain." Albuquerque Alibi: "Their vigor and passion is incredible and virtually unmatched by any show I've been to"--

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Life is a struggle. Even when things go our way, it's a constant swim against the tide, kicking against the current in the hope we'll eventually find the shore. That's the premise behind Dave Hause's fourth album, Kick. Kicking was the first thing he saw his newborn twins do and it's something he himself has been doing all his life. His career as a musician has spanned two decades, and his songs have always been a quest for personal survival - about pushing through against the odds - but his perspective shifted dramatically after the November 2016 election.
This installment, out April 12th on Rise/BMG, finds Hause carrying on in the voice and tradition of classic American songwriters by tackling topics of hope, depression, global warming, a crumbling democracy, and growing old. These complex notions weave together with a joyous sing-along cadence that creates a soundtrack for the broken American dream. "The shift in American culture became really acute right as we put out my last album," Hause explains. "All this great stuff was happening for me personally but with this backdrop of American ideals and American culture seemingly caving in."
Those conflicting feelings sparked some deep, soul-searching conversations between Hause and his brother, whom he calls his musical soulmate, and Kick came together as the brothers worked more collaboratively than ever before, with Tim in Philadelphia and Dave in Santa Barbara. Over numerous Face Time sessions, voice notes and many, many calls, the pair found the album's purpose and focus. "If the glaciers are melting, what's the point?" asked Hause. "When the tide seems to be pulling you towards a black hole, what do you do? And I asked Tim that question and he said 'You kick against it. I don't know what else to do.'"
That sense of hope and defiance permeates this record from beginning to end. "Saboteurs" takes issue with the systems in place that value profits over well-being, while "Warpaint" serves as both a tribute to the women in Hause's life as well as a moody call-to-arms. And on "The Ditch", the record's first single, Dave and Tim tackle mental health issues head-on, marking the first time in their respective careers that they've openly discussed their own struggles with depression.
One catalyst for doing so was the sudden and tragic loss of friend and musical inspiration Scott Hutchison. The Frightened Rabbit frontman took his own life in 2018, prompting the brothers to write about finding - and coming back to - a sense of meaning and purpose again after going through their own battles. Understandably, that track's themes of finding the will to stick it out and make the best of where you are, quickly became a major keystone of the album.

"I think those ideas show up in almost every song in some capacity," Hause says. Beyond the personal lyrics, the concept of 'If I can't make it out of this ditch, I better make a home of it' can be applied globally. "There is comfort in desperation when you know that other people experience it too, and together you can both sing it and sing through it. As I listen back, I hope it offers more comfort than desperation. I hope we got that balance right."

ADULT.
Over the last 23 years, Detroit-based ADULT. (Nicola Kuperus & Adam Lee Miller) have released seven albums across a multitude of labels: DAIS, Mute, Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey, Third Man Records, Clone Records, and their own Ersatz Audio. They have remixed the likes of LIARS, John Foxx, & Barry Adamson (Magazine). This past year they've had the honor of sharing the stage with such personally inspirationing bands as Nitzer Ebb, L7, Severed Heads and Gary Numan. They where also included on Mute Records' 2019 release STUMM433, a tribute to John Cage's game changing composition 4'33" and featuring such artists as Depeche Mode, New Order and Cabaret Voltaire.

As they continue to mine their own unique sound of the avant-garde meets electronics meets punk meets your own discomfort ADULT. are pleased to announce the completion of album number eight. This album was conceived in a black hole. After their last album THIS BEHAVIOR (DAIS 2018), written in a majestic cabin in the snow covered woods of northern Michigan, the band wanted to do something that was a total contrast - something less peaceful, even if writing THIS BEHAVIOR was partially like a scene out of "The Shining." The focus this time around was sensory deprivation; nothing to look at, no interference, just darkness. From May - September 2019 they recorded an album in their basement or "cellar" (depending on which word fulfills your perception). The space was painted completely black with no windows, only enough light to operate the machines (plus, a few metal pipes attached to a garbage can). There was no sense of time, no sense of season. There were no phones. There was no social engagement down in the pit. The main purpose in the studio... to question the idea of "perception."

Their new album PERCEPTION IS/AS/OF DECEPTION consists of 9 songs based on the uncertainty of what we see, how we see it, what we do with that information we are delivered day in/day out. With references that stretch from Merleau-Ponty to Goethe to Aldous Huxley's "Doors of Perception" to Jean Cocteau's "Blood of a Poet", there is a history of human behavior wrapped up and twisted into this paranoid, beat laden, overindulgent, over-synthed, mind fuck of a reality.

Should you never have had the joy of seeing Bob Log III play, let me attempt to describe it for you: picture a man in a shiny blue jumpsuit and a pilot's helmet wired to a telephone receiver, playing slide guitar with all the dirty, scuzzy joy in his heart. Add to that a kick drum and foot cymbal, the myth of a monkey paw in place of a right hand, and a setlist that includes songs named Boob Scotch, Bubble Strut and My Shit Is Perfect, and you'll begin to get the gist. It is loud and strange and electrifying, and how ecstatic it all sounds, that guitar glazed with a kind of sublime and honey-dipped happiness.

June Of 44 It has been written far and wide that June of 44 is from Louisville, Kentucky and in fact founding member Jeff Mueller is indeed a native of Louisville, yet June of 44 as a band began existence in the fall of 1994 in New York City. October and November of that year saw the band record it's first record "Engine Takes to the Water" at James Murphy's Downtown Brooklyn location of his Plantain Studios as well as performing their first series of concerts. Throughout the nineties Mueller with Doug Scharin, Fred Erskine, and Sean Meadows would continue to make records for Chicago's Quarterstick Records and play concerts in Taiwan, Guatemala, Europe, Australia, and North America.

In 2018, June of 44 started playing select concerts again, and is currently working on new music.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
There comes a moment in every Slim Cessna's Auto Club show when you realize you're seeing something you'll never see anywhere else. It's Slim Cessna in a white cowboy hat and beard, the lights haloing his ungainly frame, horn-rimmed glasses flashing through the smoke. He's trading lyrics and insults with Munly Munly, gaunt and strange, dressed in a shade of black particular to preachers and burnt down barns. Their voices rise and converge in the kind of exquisite harmony usually found in Sacred Harp congregations, and then the band cuts loose, the best live band in the world, and the two men are doing battle, playing out some cathartic war between good and evil on stage. Or trading dance steps. You can't tell.

I said the best live band in the world, and I ain't the only one. No Depression and Spin Magazine have said the same. This is a band that's held its own onstage with everybody from Johnny Cash to the Dresden Dolls. But you listen to the recording of "That Fierce Cow is Common Sense in a Country Dress," and it'll take you just about four minutes before you realize you're listening to the best band in the world, period. It's Lord Dwight Pentacost leading the lunatic rapture on his Jesus and Mary double-necked guitar; Rebecca Vera playing pedal steel so sublimely that I swear to God you can see the ghost of Ralph Mooney circling the stage; and, holding down the rhythm section like they have with each other since seventh grade, The Peeler on drums and Danny Pants on the doghouse bass, driving the band, making you lose your damn mind.

They've been making music for over twenty years, and there is, quite simply, nothing else like it. It's gospel music, is what I've decided. Gospel music for a blasted world. A world straining and bursting in constant pain, but one that can't help but overspill with joy - even knowing better. And the songs, Jesus. Songs about Colorado Indian hater John Chivington, alien abductions, patricide, a man born without a spine. This is the wild, bloody and weird America of Harry Crews, the only America worth a damn. It's what Flannery O'Connor was trying to say when she wrote of dark romances and the grotesque. If you've got a heart, these songs'll break it, and if you've got any laughter left in you, they'll beat it out of you until you cry.

I probably can't improve on what Jello Biafra said about Slim Cessna's Auto Club, that they're "the country band that plays the bar at the end of the world." But I like to think that as long as they're around, they can still save us from that end. Or at least from what currently passes as country music.
