Soul City Presents Mother's Finest and Vintage Vixens at the Miller Theater on Friday, July 19 at 8:00pm

Music which goes straight to the gut and into your legs, which aims for your heart and soul and always finds its target: there can be no question that Mother's Finest are among the most energetic and charismatic rock groups on this planet. With their virtuoso vocalist Joyce Kennedy at the epicenter of their sound quake, a tight rhythm section which leaves nothing to be desired and masses of spirited guitar fusillades to make listeners go weak at the knees, this band has long made a name for itself in the annals of rock history. Their latest studio recording Goody Two Shoes & The Filthy Beast was released in 2015.

This is the band's first studio recording since their 2003 release Meta-Funk'n-Physical. You'd be safe to refer to Goody Two Shoes & The Filthy Beast as an incomparable rock experience which can deservedly be labelled as an original.

Rockin' that retro sound, the all-female Vintage Vixens include Gypsy Wolf (Amy Smith) on lead guitar/vocals, Wyldflower (Jan Eller) on keyboards, Moonchild (Carol Petrovich) laying down the groove on drums, Penny Lane (Linda Walker) on bass, and Harmony (Vanessa Simon) channeling her inner Diana on lead vocals. Talk about "Flower Power"!

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
All artists are a direct product of their influences. Such is the case with guitarist, singer, songwriter Robbie Ducey.

Growing up in the same hometown as the 'Godfather of Soul', Robbie was exposed to the heavyweights of the rhythm & blues/soul music scene of the late 60's. Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Albert King, and of course James Brown are all early influences. The 'British' invasion of the early 70's with its guitar driven sounds brought more influences such as Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jimi Hendrix, all of which can be heard in Robbie's playing style.

From the Florida Keys to Ohio and all points in between, Robbie Ducey Band has been burning up the road for many years, constantly touring to promote their music and name. Robbie has always entertained and 'wowed' their audiences with the thing that matters the most---Great Music and Great Performance.

Mike Mills, of two-decade rock powerhouse R.E.M., and Robert McDuffie, internationally renowned violinist, have been close friends since they were children growing up in Macon, Georgia. In the spring of 2016, inspired by the blurred lines between contemporary classical audiences and rock and pop music, McDuffie commissioned Mills to write a new composition they could share with audiences both classical and modern.

In 2016-2017, Mills and McDuffie performed Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra to sold-out venues on the east coast. Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra is the first classical work composed and performed by Mike Mills with his longtime friend and new collaborator, McDuffie. The pair is joined on the recording by the McDuffie Center for Strings Ensemble conducted by Ward Stare and made up of students from the award-winning Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University. This piece will also be performed at A Night of Georgia Music.

In addition to her Tony-winning performances in Carousel, Master Class, Ragtime, A Raisin in the Sun, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill-the role that also served as the vehicle for her 2017 debut on London's West End (2018 Olivier Award nomination)-she has appeared on Broadway in The Secret Garden, Marie Christine (Tony nomination), Henry IV, 110 in the Shade (Tony nomination), and Shuffle Along, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, and she stars in Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune in summer 2019. The Juilliard-trained soprano's opera credits include La voix humaine and Send at Houston Grand Opera, and Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at Los Angeles Opera. On television, she was seen by millions as the Mother Abbess in NBC's The Sound of Music Live! and played Dr. Naomi Bennett on ABC's Private Practice. She won an Emmy Award for her role as host of PBS's Live From Lincoln Center and has received nominations for Wit, A Raisin in the Sun, and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. Having first appeared as Liz Lawrence on CBS's The Good Wife, she can now be seen on CBS All Access's The Good Fight, which launches its third season in 2019. On film, she has appeared in Seven Servants, The Object of My Affection, Cradle Will Rock, It Runs in the Family, The Best Thief in the World, She Got Problems, Rampart, Ricki and the Flash, Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast, and the movie-musical Hello Again. McDonald has released five solo albums on the Nonesuch label and recently released a new recording, Sing Happy, with the New York Philharmonic on Decca Gold. She also maintains a major career as a concert artist, regularly appearing on the great stages of the world and with leading international orchestras. Of all her many roles, her favorites are the ones performed offstage: passionate advocate for equal rights and homeless youth, wife to actor Will Swenson, and mother.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
A phenomenally successful instrumentalist whose recordings routinely made the pop, R&B, and jazz charts during the 1980s and '90s, Kenny G's sound became a staple on adult contemporary and smooth jazz radio stations. He's a fine player with an attractive sound (influenced a bit by Grover Washington, Jr.) who often caresses melodies, putting a lot of
emotion into his solos. Because he does not improvise much (sticking mostly to predictable melody statements), his music largely falls outside of jazz. However, because he is listed at the top of "contemporary jazz" charts and is identified with jazz in the minds of the mass public, he is classified as jazz.
Kenny Gorelick started playing professionally with Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1976. He recorded with Cold, Bold & Together (a Seattle-based funk group) and freelanced locally. After graduating from the University of Washington, Kenny G worked with Jeff Lorber Fusion, making two albums with the group. Soon he was signed to Arista, recording his debut as a leader in 1982. His fourth album, Duotones(which included the very popular "Songbird"), made him into a star. Soon he was in demand for guest appearances on recordings of such famous singers as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Natalie Cole. Kenny G's own records have sold remarkably well, particularly Breathless, which has easily topped eight million copies in the U.S.; his total album sales top 30 million copies. The holiday album Miracles, released in 1994, and 1996's Moment continued the momentum of his massive commercial success. He also recorded his own version of the Celine Dion/Titanic smash "My Heart Will Go On" in 1998, but the following year he released Classics in the Key of G, a collection of jazz standards like "'Round Midnight" and "Body and Soul," possibly to reclaim some jazz credibility.
Faith: A Holiday Album was released that same year, followed by a limited-edition re-release of the 1997 Greatest Hits disc. In 2002 Kenny G dipped into tropical territory with Paradise, which featured guest appearances by Brian McKnight and Chanté Moore. This was followed
by a music video collection, another holiday album, entitled Wishes, and, in 2003, a second greatest-hits collection, Ultimate Kenny G. Perhaps in a bid to shake up his discography a bit, in 2004 Kenny G released At Last...The Duets Album, which featured "duets" with LeAnn Rimes and Chaka Khan. Two years later, smooth jazz's king of the soprano sax returned to a
purely instrumental approach on the brassy, big-band-inspired albums Holiday Collection and I'm in the Mood for Love; 2006 was also the year the artist was dubbed the best golfer in music by Golf Digest, beating out Vince Gill for the number one spot. In 2008, Kenny G released the Latin-inspired Rhythm and Romance. The sax player next drifted toward R&B for 2010's Heart and Soul, which featured guest vocals from Robin Thicke and Babyface. A collection with Rahul Sharma called Namaste followed in 2012, and in 2015 Kenny G released a tribute to bossa nova titled Brazilian Nights.
