Mississippi Studios Presents
Forty Feet Tall / Oh, Rose
June 30, 2023
9:00 PM
Doors Open: 8:00 PM
Doors Open: 8:00 PM
w/ Nonbinary Girlfriend
The band’s newest material, recorded with Portland polymath Cameron Spies (The Shivas, Blackwater Holylight, Spoon Benders), eclipses their previous accomplishments. Songs like “BOIL” and “Can’t Go Back To Normal” abound with ideas, yet stay sharply focused, a la Talking Heads, Pixies or more contemporary names like Parquet Courts and IDLES.
But the biggest buzz around Forty Feet Tall is its live show. Now on the road consistently, you’ll see the band opening up for acts like Guerilla Toss or The Shivas, storming the stages at SXSW and Treefort. These gigs routinely climax with incendiary showstoppers that find Cole tangled up in mic cords or diving into the crowd. But their outrage is anchored in hope, and a drive to do better. Their memorable music may sound loud and confrontational, but the community they’ve built around it resonates with positivity.
Oh, Rose
Oh, Rose has solidified their place in the PNW music scene through powerful, upbeat performances showcasing the emotive and unfiltered voice of frontperson Olivia Rose. Their catalog is both intimate and explosive; since forming in 2014, the band has released two albums and an EP, amassing a catalog that ranges from soft, synth-tinted love songs to full-on, painfully screamed ballads. Their latest release, While My Father Sleeps, tells the complex story of family, adversity, love, and friendship, while also serving as an homage to Rose’s mother, who passed away in 2017.
Nonbinary Girlfriend
Nonbinary Girlfriend is an therial punk bedroom indie band from Portland. Inspired by the worst days, inner kindness, and taking up space, Nonbinary Girlfriend makes rock existential. Anaïs fronts the band with lead vocals, omnichord and guitar. Their music experiments with gender and sexuality through self-expression, siren-esque melodies, and reverberating instrumentals. The band hopes to spread validation, kindness, and pleasure through music. They offer audiences interactive healing through sound. Their music serves as a platform to make people feel seen by personifying their own experiences with sexual assault, gender expectations, and relationships... Some may say that to be kind is to be small, they say to be kind is to be BIG.

Forty Feet Tall
Now Portland mainstays, childhood friends Cole Gann (lead singer/guitar) and Jack Sehres (guitar) started Forty Feet Tall as Los Angeles teens. Influenced by grunge, post-punk and alternative rock, their hard-edged, expansive sound and high-energy performances scored them slots at venues including the Troubadour, Roxy and the Whiskey. After a few releases while the members were away at college, the band restarted in Portland with bass player Brett Marquette and later, drummer Ian Kelley, solidifying the quartet’s formidable rhythm section.
