    Marika Hackman

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for her emotionally honest and personal lyrics, Marika Hackman first made a name for herself with a spare, acoustic-oriented approach. Receiving acclaim for her musical talent, lyrical depth, and unique style, Marika has been recognized through interviews, reviews, and profiles in publications like The Independent, The Guardian, Pitchfork, Dazed, The New York Times, KEXP and Stereogum.

    Art School Girlfriend

Hailing from Wrexham, North Wales and currently residing in East London, Polly Mackey has been making music as Art School Girlfriend since her debut EP in 2017. Combining organic instrumental textures with blue-hour tinged electronics, the producer/multi-instrumentalist has released two acclaimed albums. With 2021’s Is It Light Where You Are, Mackey captured a long-term breakup in vast sonic landscapes, skittering beats and diaristic lyrics. She followed this with 2023’s Soft Landing – a gauzy, liminal take on finding joy and contentment, described by Pitchfork as an “intimate and adventurous second album… guitars are processed to sound like synths, synths function like lead guitars, and drums flip between electronic and acoustic”. Mackey spent the last year touring and building her own studio, which has become a creative hub for both her own music making and working with other artists and bands; her third and upcoming record will be a product of her new space, with fresh music expected in Autumn 2024.

Pixel Grip is resolute in their beliefs and their dynamic exploration of the human experience. Colloquially described as "Club Pop", the band blurs the lines between avant-pop, EBM and minimal wave to construct a sound uniquely their own. Their moody songs push artistic boundaries and challenge the combative conditions of everyday life. Over the last four years, this rising Chicago-based trio has been selling-out clubs and winning over fans with their indelible live performances.

After years of uncertainty including label disputes, unpaid royalties and a surprise (and successful) album drop,And she is ready to make some noise.  Her new album Let Me Do One More is three years in the making and Tudzin’s most defiant and accomplished record to date. Let Me Do One More is out now via Snack Shack Tracks (in partnership with Hopeless Records.)

After the success of her debut album, Kiss Yr Frenemies, and coining the term “tenderpunk,” illuminati hotties were on their way to recording and releasing a highly-anticipated sophomore album. However, things at the label started to fall apart, and illuminati hotties found themselves stuck in a contract with a label who didn’t have the infrastructure to put out the album the band had been crafting for months. “It felt like any momentum came to a screeching halt. It felt painful to pick up a guitar, to write, to record any loose ends that needed to happen to wrap up the album,” Sarah recalls.

With the emotional turmoil and uncertainty building over the label situation, Tudzin turned her focus to a new batch of songs that would become FREE I.H. Funneling all the raw feelings and letting go of any inhibitions, illuminati hotties released the collection of songs, carefully not defined as the “new album.” The critically-acclaimed, fan favorite, release closed the chapter on the label drama, and opened up the band musically to a whole world of possibilities.

Pull the Rope, the new record by Ibibio Sound Machine, casts the Eno Williams and Max Grunhard–led outfit in a new light. The hope, joy, and sexiness of their music remain, but, further honing the edge of their acclaimed 2022 album Electricity, the connection they aim to foster has shifted venues from the sunny buoyancy of a sunlit festival to a sweat-soaked, all-night dance club. The atmosphere has changed, but you’re still having the time of your life.

Williams and Grunhard attribute this shift to a matter of collaborators, recording Pull the Rope with Sheffield-based producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A.) over the course of two weeks. The way the pair wrote songs changed significantly—rather than Eno penning lyrics to music generated by Max and company’s jamming, Orton started with Eno and Max writing together before adding the band. With less time in the studio and a new way of considering how they built songs, the duo found making decisions about Pull the Rope’s sound quicker and more instinctual than before.

“Ross is from Sheffield, which has an edgier, more industrial vibe than London,” Grunhard explains. “He hears things differently than us, is more grounded in rave and grungier sounds, and knew when to add drums or push the instrumentation more. It was very different for us, but it lends itself to where Ibibio Sound Machine is going.”

In melding their songwriting process, Grunhard and Williams have, impossibly, pulled the trick of making Ibibio Sound Machine a tighter band than ever before, building out from their core in a way that highlights the electrifying group of musicians they play with. Rather than recording with the full band in the room, Pull the Rope was sculpted, elements added and shaped by Grunhard, Williams, and Orton along the way. As a result, Pull the Rope is a nimble, sleek machine that’s thrilling from the first note of the opening title track, Eno’s otherworldly voice and PK Ambrose’s throbbing bass driving through a kaleidoscopic array of house, post-punk, funk, Afrobeat and disco, bangers and ballads, making an argument for unity that begins on the dancefloor.

The sound of Pull the Rope, then, is hope in darkness, bliss in spite of bleakness. Once again, Ibibio Sound Machine are here to provide the soundtrack to the best night of your life, and the better world to come.

The day Alisa Amador decided to walk away from her career in music was, ironically enough, the day her career truly began.

"I was burned out and dealing with all this personal grief and trauma, and I finally just came to the conclusion that I couldn't go on the way I was anymore," she reflects. "And then as I was walking through the logistics of how I would break the news to everyone in my life, I got a phone call telling me that I'd won the NPR Tiny Desk Contest."

Now, two years later, Amador is an artist reborn, both spiritually and sonically, with a stunning full-length debut to show for it. Recorded with co-producers Tyler Chester and Daniel Radin, Multitudes finds the bilingual singer/songwriter formally introducing herself with a bold, captivating self-portrait, one that serves not only as a testament to how far she's come, but also as a celebration of where she comes from. Slipping effortlessly between Spanish and English and featuring guest appearances from Gaby Moreno, Madison Cunningham, and Quinn Christopherson, the songs here are raw and vulnerable, at once steeped in devastating loss and uncertainty, but also laced with the hope and resilience of young woman learning to find her voice and stand her ground in the midst of a personal and professional maelstrom. Certainly, Multitudes is a beautiful record — the way Amador's crystalline voice cut through the album's lush synthesizers, dreamy guitars, and cinematic string arrangements is nothing short of spellbinding — but more than that, it's a fierce work of discovery and affirmation that reveals new secrets with each repeated listen, a profound, revelatory meditation on triumph and loss, endings and beginnings, identity and belonging, all delivered by a songwriter convinced she would never write again.

"When NPR called, I genuinely considered asking them to give the honor to someone else," Amador recalls. "I felt like a fraud because after the death of a close friend in 2020, I'd completely stopped writing. But in that moment, it felt like something was telling me to surrender to the reality that music is and always would be my purpose."

Amador's passion for music is no coincidence. Born to a pair of Latin folk artists, she began singing with her parents' band, Sol Y Canto, at the age of five, and spent much of her childhood traveling the country on an endless series of tours along with her twin brother, Zia. She spent extended periods with her grandparents in Puerto Rico and New Mexico, as well, before attending college in Maine, which enabled her to study abroad in Buenos Aires for a semester.

"From a young age, I saw exactly how insane and difficult it was to make a life playing music," Amador recalls. "But I also knew I'd be lying to myself if I tried to do anything else."

Fresh out of school, Amador began touring and recording as a solo artist, releasing a pair of well-received independent EPs and crisscrossing the country just as she had during her childhood. But over time, something about her experiences began to feel off, and the purpose and meaning she'd found in music began slipping through her fingers.

    with special guest Illiterate Light

    Mo Lowda & the Humble

Mo Lowda & the Humble are a self-produced indie rock band hailing from Philadelphia. The band just finished up their fourth LP, to be self-titled and released March 3, 2023 with five singles leading up.  Since releasing their debut album in 2013, they’ve vastly expanded the sonic exploration of their recorded material whilst developing a dialed-in, yet energetic live show through persistent touring.  In turn, they’ve built a ravenous and loyal following across the country, selling out clubs and theaters throughout the US each year.  Mo Lowda’s upcoming self-titled album is their most versatile and ambitious work yet.  It visits some previously uncharted sonic territory for the band, while still providing the thoughtful, creative songwriting their fans have grown to love. Visit www.molowda.com for all tickets.

    Illiterate Light

Illiterate Light thrives on subverting expectations. Though just a duo, singer-guitarist Jeff Gorman and drummer Jake Cochran make surprisingly pummeling and catchy alternative rock. Since the band’s 2015 inception, they’ve intently focused on their unorthodox live show with Cochran standing behind his kit and Gorman playing synth bass with his foot as he sings and strums his guitar. Fiercely egalitarian and independent, the two not only split up songwriting duties and arrangement ideas, they even built bike-powered stages: bringing the fans into the live experience and envisioning a greener future for shows.

But with their latest album Sunburned, out January 27 via Thirty Tigers, Gorman and Cochran have turned their attention inward to their songwriting and studio craft. It’s their most fully-realized and ambitious LP yet, one that’s full of immediate songs that update and revolutionize the band’s approach to making music. There are rich keyboard and programmed percussion textures now populating their songs, as well as soaringly anthemic choruses, and hefty doses of fuzz. “On our first record, we were very live-focused and wanted to make sure whatever we were writing was translated in person,” says Gorman. “Without that crutch, we could be more adventurous and take more risks. We definitely weren’t timid in the studio.”

They are led by Reverend Peyton, who most consider to be the premier finger picker playing today. Their latest record Dance Songs For Hard Times went #1 on the Billboard, iTunes and Sirius XM Blues Charts and was produced by Grammy winner Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton). Uz Jsme Doma
(pronounced oosh-smeh-dough-ma), are a progressive avantgarde kazz-punk band from Czech Republic. It was active in keeping freedom during the totalitarian system in former Czechoslovakia and due to that, the band had played mostly on illegal level and in constant danger of jail.

The band´s approach to arrangements is unique in the world of rock. They bring the instruments and vocals in different directions within the same scales and keys to create a dense melodic atmosphere. In addition, their rhythms often accent off-beats and half-beats, throwing the listener in unexpected directions. The band is also fond of shifts between time signatures and the insertion of extra beats in the shaping of the mood of the song.

Band tours frequently whole the world - till now they visited 43 different countries, major part of them took USA (more than 700 shows in almost all states), but as well as Japan, New Zealand, Israel, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, etc etc.

The band has, to date, released eight proper studio albums, two live albums, several DVD’s a many compilations all over the world. They collaborate to theatre, film or occasionally they play with symphonic orchestra.

    Lineup 2024:

Miroslav Wanek (guitar, keyboards, lead vocal)

Martin Velisek (brushes – non/playing, non/traveling, but painting)

    Adam Tomasek (trumpet, vocal)

    Free Salamander Exhibit
Current research indicates that within 2 years of use, a pillow's weight increases by 30% due to the accumulation of dead skin cells, dust mites, and their droppings. In a similar fashion, Free Salamander Exhibit has gradually augmented its own weight through an accumulation of musical and literary droppings, distilled these into creative impulses- -impulses committed to memory and subsequently forgotten.

Originally called the Rock Springs Six, Free Salamander Exhibit makes no bones about being influenced by the early work of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. "Yeah, we all have that first record," they mutter nonchalantly. Their new name is taken from the Sleepytime Gorilla Press's 1916 leaflet distributed by Pentecostal snake-handler George Went Hensley of Tennessee, wherein the gospel dictum "They shall take up serpents and salamanders" was treated to more or less literal interpretation. "Yeah, we all handle them, salamanders that is," they confess. Yes, they have renounced their snake handling ways in favor of the modern hair-shirt, i.e. the burlap gown. Certainly their outfits are uncomfortable and make playing difficult, especially for the non-rock instruments they sometimes employ, but what price beauty?

From their inception Cola have expanded on the d.i.y. ethic of the Dischord and SST eras, creating potent sounds from a minimal palette of drums/bass/guitar and lacing their songs with winsome one-liners and societal commentary. What’s another word for commentary? Gloss, apparently. Never basic, the lyrics reward repeated listening for deeper meanings. David Berman’s poetry-via-garage light pennings are an inspiration, as equally so are the lighter side of UK first-wave New Wave and the Dunedin sound. The results are in the pudding: at times sparse and poetic, at others a thrilling, hook-laden good time, as with the cheeky romantic sketch of a one-night stand that is so overflowing with innuendo-cum-journalism talk that it almost teeters over into self-parody. It's an album bursting with energy and wit and ideas–filled to the margins.

w/ All Girl Summer Fun Band & Swansea Sound

Heavenly formed in 1989 out of the ashes of short-lived punk pop combo Talulah Gosh.  Original members Amelia Fletcher, Peter Momtchiloff, Rob Pursey and Mathew Fletcher were joined later by Cathy Rogers, and the full Heavenly sound - a combination of an energetic punkish rhythm section, sweet, wandering lead guitar lines and full-on girl group harmonies - was consolidated. The band recorded for cult label Sarah Records in the UK and, by the time of their second album, for K Records in the US.  Members of the indiepop scene in the UK and the burgeoning Riot Grrrl scene in the US, Heavenly created a unique blend of infectious melody and sharp-edged lyrics.  The band’s career was cut tragically short when drummer Mathew took his own life in 1996.  In 2023 the band started the process of re-releasing their four LPs and have played a handful of live shows, with drummer Ian Button completing the line-up.  Concerts in London, Paris and New York have sold out quickly, with original Heavenly fans clamouring to see a band that they still love.  Along the way, Heavenly’s music has also found a new, much younger audience, with millions of streams and Tiktok ‘likes’.  Heavenly are very much back on the scene, and are currently working on new material.

A portion of the proceeds from the Hinds tour will go to TAC and their work supporting LGBTQ Youth across the country.

Hinds,VIVA HINDSThe fourth album from Spanish indie rockers Hinds opens with a song called “Hi, How AreYou,” and at the time they were writing it, best friends Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrotewould’ve responded:Not great.“Hey, you ok?” Perrote sings to Cosials, who responds: “I’vebeen better tbh.” It’s an apt introduction toVIVA HINDS, an album Cosials and Perrote madeafter emerging from a creative rut that began when they released their last album,PrettiestCurse, in2020 and ended when their bassist and drummer decided to leave the band. In between, they split with their management team, lost touring revenue due to lockdowns, and were withouta label for the first time, but when Perrote and Cosials got together to writeVIVA HINDS, thosehardships dissolved. The girls had no one in their corner, but they had one another, and thatmutual trust (they call themselves “millionaires in friendship”) allowed them to create the mostaccomplished album of their careers, one that celebrates their shared history and reaffirms thatthis band is in it for the long haul.Effervescent since inception, Hinds took off instantly over a decade ago when, after spendingone too many nights out watching guy friends play guitar, Perrote andCosials decided that theywould learn the instrument, write songs, and start a band. Their scrappy ethic, infectious onstagepersonalities, and knack for writing hooks made their debut album, 2016’sLeave Me Alone, abuzzy hit, and they kept the momentum going withI Don’t Runin 2018. Since those formativeearly days, they’ve toured internationally and graced festival stages at Glastonbury, Coachella,Fuji Rock, and many more, in addition to opening for major acts like The Strokes, Coldplay, and5SOS. Through it all, they nurtured the intense bond that brought them together in the first place.“We started the band because we are so safe and comfortable with each other. Our relationship isunbreakable,” Cosials says. “This connection between us hasn’t changed since the verybeginning. We still finish each other’s ideas, laugh at each other’s jokes and rhyme each other’slines. Maintaining that enthusiasm for music and for Hinds through the years may seemextremely difficult to find, but it’s something that only can happen with your very best friend.”It’s been four years sinceHindsreleasedPrettiest Curse, the longest gap they’ve taken betweenalbums, and in that time frame, thegirlstendedthejoyful spiritthat made them want to start abandwith help from a few critical collaborators and friends. Initially, the girls shared theirdemos with Sean Silverman (Beach Weather) on a trip to Los Angeles, who also showed them apedal effect they’d never used before, one that would go on to influence the sonic landscape ofVIVA HINDS.The first song they wrote for the record, the hypnotic “Boom Boom Back,”features Beck, who they met by chance at a film screeningon that same trip to LA. Furthercollaborators included Hinds’ close friend Grian Chatten of FontainesD.C., who sings on thesimmering post-punk inspired stand-out track “Stranger.”

Why am I always expected to do these? I write fiction—questionable fiction at that. This is my third attempt after being told by our manager to do and then redo a bio—I think I am being kind in not pointing out the difference between biography and autobiography. I typed keywords into the computer: Examples Of Band Bios. I certainly gleaned an insight into…self promotion…so this is my final attempt, dont ask again and dont try and edit and improve it to: Appeal to a wider audience. That is not us. I will start—and I wish I could end—by saying, Thirty years, hundreds of songs. Wouldnt it be nice to end right here? But, the internet said I needed to address other ‘fascinating points of interest’. What genre are we? I dont want to be shoehorned anymore, I hope that we have made our own. We helped create The Denver Sound and we continue to experiment and reinvent what we are flattered to be a part of. I am proud that we have taken total control of…everything, and continue to release music and books on our own label SCACUNINCORPORATED. SCAC is releasing the second section of Kinnery Of Lupercalia: Buell Legion. Only SCAC is able to faithfully represent the Buells and their hopes and hates, humors and despairs. I usually dont listen to our albums after we record them, however I might listen to this again. It finally captures the perfect balance between our studio and live sound. Andrew and Dwight have graduated into what I would call, Advanced Placement Recording. Everyone has found their place in SCAC and it shows on this album. George—Emile Cessna’s brother—has joined SCAC on baritone bass and now forms a formidable rhythm section with longtime drummer Andrew—I guess I should mention everyone here. Though she would never say it, Rebecca—my girl— pushes the pedal steel and keyboard into new territory. I now see Dwight cited as a major influence for both banjo and guitar players and he cements those accolades on the Buell Legion. Slim’s voice is honed and better than ever… and Myself, blah blah blah…

“The last ten years have been a rollercoaster of deep despair and amazing opportunities that somehow present themselves at the last possible second,” says Eef Barzelay. “During that time, the band bottomed out, I lost my house, and I had to declare bankruptcy. The only way to survive was to try to transcend myself, to find some kind of deeper, spiritual relationship with life. Once I committed to that, all these little miracles started happening.”

‘Forever Just Beyond,’ Barzelay’s stunning new album under the Clem Snide moniker, may just be the most miraculous of them all. Produced by Scott Avett, the record is a work of exquisite beauty and profound questioning, a reckoning with faith and reality that rushes headlong into the unknown and the unknowable. The songs here grapple with hope and depression, identity and perception, God and the afterlife, humanizing thorny existential issues and delivering them with the intimate, understated air of a late-night conversation between old friends. Avett’s production is similarly warm and inviting, and the careful, spacious arrangement of gentle guitars and spare percussion carves a wide path for Barzelay’s insightful lyrics and idiosyncratic delivery.

“I look up to Eef with total respect and admiration,” says Avett, “and I hope to survive like he survives: with total love for the new and the unknown. Eef’s a crooner and an indie darling by sound and a mystic sage by depth. That’s not common, but it’s beautiful.”

Named for a William S. Borroughs character, Clem Snide first emerged from Boston as a three-piece in the early 1990’s, and the group would go on to become a cult and critical favorite, picking up high profile fans from Bon Iver to Ben Folds over the course of three decades and more than a dozen studio albums. NPR highlighted the Israeli-born Barzelay as “the most underrated songwriter in the business today, with a sneakily firm grasp on poignancy and humor,” while Rolling Stone hailed his songwriting as “soulful and incisive,” and The New Yorker praised his music’s “soothing melodies and candid wit.”

Louis Katz performs punchline heavy, New York-style stand up with a unique blend of highbrow and lowbrow humor that's been lovingly described as “cerebral filth.” Over the course of his career, Louis has been featured on NBC, HBO, and 5 times on Comedy Central, including his own half-hour special and an appearance on their storytelling show, “ This Is Not Happening ,” which has since been viewed over 3 million times on YouTube. His latest album, “KATZKILLS,” was named one of the top 5 comedy albums of the year by vulture.com , who called it “a raucous comedy party.” Louis’ first one-hour special was released on Epix in 2022 as part of their “Unprotected Sets” series. His latest special, " Present/Tense ," was released independently on YouTube in late 2023 and became an instant hit with over a million views in just a few months. A true comedian’s comedian, Louis’ act has garnered praise from industry legends such as Dave Attell who called him, “one of the best joke writers working today” and Ali Wong who said Louis was, “one of the funniest and most prolific comedians I know.” Marc Maron featured Louis on his WTF podcast twice saying, “His album and special are hilarious.” But perhaps Doug Stanhope put it best when he said, "Katz is funny to the point that Hitler would have given him a sleeper car on the train." If you like your dirty jokes smart and your smart jokes a little filthy, you’re going to love Louis Katz.

Bilal Sayeed Oliver is a truly independent artist. A singer, songwriter, and producer who has always been ahead of his time - blending jazz, afro-futurism, classic soul, alternative r&b, rock, and even classical in his vocals and music. He's known for his wide vocal range, work across multiple genres, and magnetic live performances. Philip Bailey said Bilal is the rare singer who uses his voice like an instrument.

Interscope Records signed Bilal to a major label recording deal fresh out of college, after studying jazz composition and opera at The New School in NYC. His debut album, “First Born Second," showcased a range from the emotionally charged fan-favorite, "Soul Sista," which peaked at No. 18 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, to the political viewpoints of "Fast Lane" and "Second Child”.

Bilal quickly developed a sizable following at his live shows which were known for being emotional and elecrifying. He received great acclaim from his peers, who noted his range and ability to sing in a freeform style and his classically trained falsetto. The soulful feel of the album caused Bilal to be labeled as "neo-soul,” but throughout his career his expansion in music and pushing of boundaries has proved his point that he is much more than that.

MICHELLE's first project of buoyant R&B tracks was an ode to New York City, the city where all 6 members of the band grew up. But amid the success of that project, 2018's HEATWAVE, and 2022's AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS, they left home and broadened their perspective. The band traveled across the U.S. and Europe opening for Gus Dapperton, Arlo Parks, and Mitski, headlining their own shows, and playing festivals.

While writing their new album, Songs About You Specifically, MICHELLE decided to rent out a house in Ojai, California. Surrounded by lizards, the smell of ripe cactus fruit, and endless expanses of sand, they experienced a sense of solitude and closeness they hadn't before. It shifted the tone of their work. While their earlier music channeled the churning restlessness of the city, these news songs meander and expand into starry shoegaze reveries, slick funk riffs, and lilting 80s synth pop.

Their newfound closeness also helped them write more vulnerable music. On Songs About You Specifically, the band members express their complicated desires, voice their regrets, and own up to their moments of selfishness. By slowing down, cutting out any distractions, and fostering a sense of communal closeness that necessitated honesty, MICHELLE ended up with a collection of songs that feel like the truth.
