    w/ Hrishikesh Hirway

Spanning more than two decades, Mike Kinsella's widely influential songwriting has steadily sharpened and evolved with each new chapter. In his solo vehicle as Owen (in addition to his roles along the way with American Football, Cap'n Jazz, the more recent LIES, and other collaborative ventures), Kinsella’s ability to seamlessly stitch jagged emotional currents into crushingly beautiful songs has remained at the forefront of his art. This contrast has become more distinct as Owen expanded from unassuming acoustic beginnings into more ornate production, reaching new levels of complexity and clarity by the release of 2020’s The Avalanche. The Falls of Sioux, Kinsella’s newest Owen full-length, levels up even further. As much as these nine songs represent a type of reinvention, they also feel like the natural next step in Kinsella’s growth, both artistic and personal. The album perforates an established sound to explore unlikely musical ideas, while the songs document a time of moving through life-altering turmoil into brighter days. Heavy themes are turned over with a gentle hand, and Kinsella inhabits the deeper perspectives that come with hard-earned life experience. The Avalanche was an unbuffered exposition of some of Kinsella’s darkest days, laying bare the emotional fallout of his divorce along with several other gradients of grief and loss. Those days aren’t forgotten, but the pieces have been picked up on The Falls of Sioux. Solidly on the other side of a painful chasm, moments of intensity now come across as confident and exploratory rather than tormented. The songs detail interpersonal situations that might have instilled panic and self-loathing in younger days, but now Kinsella meets them with a relaxed smirk. It’s there in the way gliding synths and warm vocal harmonies juxtapose brutal lyrics of doomed love on “Virtue Misspent,” one of the album’s most upbeat songs. It’s also there in the jaunty, nearly classic-rock bounce of “Mount Cleverest,” a lively banger that feels like the highpoint of a sunny summer day but boils down to exhausted, “fuck all y’all” sentiments.

w/ Taylor Kingman & Willy Tea Taylor

    Bob Sumner

If an imaginary space exists somewhere between Austin, Bakersfield, and his hometown of Vancouver, Bob Sumner found it with his sophomore record, Some Place To Rest Easy. Sumner’s refusal to copy and paste from the greats of the past informs his every musical step. “All of my heroes, all the people that did it so well—whether it be George Jones or Willie, Waylon, whoever—they weren't these museum pieces,” he explains. “They were always creating something new, something different.” This approach to taking old tried and true recipes and moving forward with them paid dividends with Sumner’s debut record Wasted Love Songs. “First class Americana,” said No Depression. “Pure gold,” opined the Georgia Straight.

“Has the heft and heart of an instant classic,” declared Broadway World. Audiences across North America agreed when Sumner lit out and provided opening duties for the likes of Colter Wall, Willie Watson, Kelsey Waldon, Corb Lund, and J.P. Harris. In Texas, while on a support tour he was invited onstage by new friend and admirer Hayes Carll, and at a showcase in Nashville, Sumner planted his flag at the world famous Bluebird Cafe—fulfilling a lifelong dream in the process. Of Some Place To Rest Easy, friend and label mate Jeffrey Martin states  “Bob Sumner writes a hell of a song and this album is a love letter to a country sound we don’t hear anymore. Lots of people are going to feel like someone out there understands them when they hear this record.  Lots of couples will slow dance in the kitchen. Singles will slow dance with their dogs.  Dudes will get teary in the truck on the way home from work”. Some Place To Rest Easy will be released September 6 on Fluff & Gravy Records (Worldwide) and The North Country Collective (Canada).

    Taylor Kingman

Between his work fronting TK & The Holy Know-Nothings and his 2017 solo debut Wannabe, Kingman is no stranger to the darkness. But here he transcends the desolate rock bottom, as Hollow Sound whispers, then howls us into that place beyond brokenness where breathing begins again. To listen deeply to these songs is to lay down naked on the wet, unforgiving earth, pushing the ground through your fingers; it is to be soothed by the wholeness of who we are, filth and all. Kingman pulls no punches with his writing, and requires us to listen with the same honesty.

    Willy Tea Taylor

There is no question that Willy Tea Taylor’s life as a singer/songwriter was predetermined – his role realized the moment he wrote his first song. His inspirations drawn from two separate wells; Living the life of a cattleman’s kid and experiencing true visionaries music like Greg Brown, John Hartford, and Guy Clark. The image of Guy Clark and friends sitting around the kitchen table loaded with ashtrays full of butts, half-smoked cigarettes, food, and booze on one Christmas Eve in 1975 burned into Taylors’ soul. Those guys, swapping songs without pretense, lit Willy Tea’s fire. And ever since, its led purpose with passion – finding a hang by curating relationships through musical friendships that get him closer to his own Clark style kitchen table.

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
    w/ JD Pinkus

King Buzzo, the iconic founder and lead vocalist/guitar player for the Melvins, and Mr. Bungle bass player Trevor Dunn, join forces this Summer, teaming up for the “King Dunn Tour.”

“I’ve been waiting a LONG time to do an acoustic tour with Trevor,” Buzz Osborne shares. “He’s a fantastic player, and has the ability to make his bass sound like an oil tanker crashing into a coral reef.”

Osborne and Dunn have collaborated several times over the years, including Dunn’s participation in King Buzzo’s 2020 album, Gift of Sacrifice, as well as both being members of Fantômas, and Dunn’s work as a part of Melvins Lite. On the “King Dunn Tour,” Dunn will will play a stand-up concert bass, while Osborne will sing and play acoustic guitar.

King Buzzo, a.k.a. Buzz Osborne, is the singer, guitar player and founder of the enormously influential band, the Melvins. His innovative approach to songwriting, and guitar playing, has influenced countless musicians, and turned leagues of music lovers into ardent fans. Renowned for his pioneering use of down-tuned strings, Buzzo masterfully blended his punk and metal influences, and in turn, he created a groundbreaking new sound in heavy music. Over Osborne’s extensive career, which originated in the small hamlet of Montesano, Wash. in 1983, he has released over 30 albums under the Melvins’ moniker, two solo albums [Gift of Sacrifice (2020) and This Machine Kills Artists (2014)], as well as a number of collaborative projects including Fantômas and Crystal Fairy.

Trevor Dunn might be most widely known for his work with Mr. Bungle, the eclectic and unpredictable Northern California band he co-founded in 1985, but his career outside of Mr. Bungle has been just as notable. Also a member of Fantômas, Trevor Dunn’s Trio-Convulsant, Tomahawk and Melvins Lite, Dunn has also written music for various ensembles, performed extensively with John Zorn, and recently formed Riverworm Records, a label home for “discarded, forgotten, and misunderstood music.”

    w/ Gondos

Three knuckleheads. Two basses. One drum kit. Zero guitars. Always. Loud and odd, Ogre is fresh off their third album in two years, playing to packed-out venues across Portland and beyond. Their latest release "ogre 3" is a compact, shrill experience that calls upon Shellac, Osees, and Lightning Bolt influences. They must be seen to be believed.

Portland, Oregon, based Gondos is a hard band to define. With an ever evolving sound that ranges from the darkest depths of doom metal and punk to the fuzzy, psychedelic worlds of rock and garage. Drawing upon influences of the past such as Black Sabbath, and more contemporary bands such as Thee Oh Sees, Gondos builds upon the psych/garage rock resurgence of the 2010’s, adding their original take on the genre.

Mary Lambert is not your typical multi-platinum artist. While studying Music Composition at Cornish College of the Arts, she found a home in the spoken word community of Seattle and began experimenting with infusing poetry into her music, performing frequently as a cellist, singer-songwriter, and poet. Lambert had never released music and was juggling multiple food service jobs when she received a call from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to collaborate on their marriage equality anthem, “Same Love”. Writing and singing the hook to “Same Love” led to an MTV VMA win and two Grammy nominations: Song of The Year and Album of The Year, and culminated in the iconic 2014 Grammys performance, which featured a mass wedding officiated by Queen Latifah and Lambert’s unforgettable duet with Madonna. After the viral success of releasing a standalone version of the song, “She Keeps Me Warm” Lambert shortly signed to Capitol Records. She released Welcome to the Age of My Body, an EP with a re-release of the Top 20 hit “She Keeps Me Warm” and “Body Love”, a spoken-word piece about body image. Later that year, she debuted her first pop song: a tongue-in-cheek single, “Secrets,” that went Gold and shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Dance charts, which was followed by her debut full-length album, Heart on My Sleeve. Lambert received the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award, The SAMHSA Special Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for her work on destigmatizing mental illness, and was invited to speak at the UN. She has performed on the Colbert Show, Ellen, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, and the American Music Awards.

Lambert had been successful in the eyes of the public; but below the surface, she was struggling with frequent panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. After two releases, she parted ways with formal management and Capitol Records. The desire was to reclaim her independence and to focus her attention on other aspects of her career: poetry, acting, composing, writing, and production. Lambert self-released the joyful indie-pop EP Bold and a self-recorded holiday EP, Happy Holigays under her own label, Tender Heart Records.

Lambert is currently recording a new album; co-starring in the Netflix animated musical and series, I ♥ Arlo and Arlo the Alligator Boy; hosting The Manic Episodes, a mental health podcast; and facilitates a virtual workshop on body image called Everybody is a Babe. Lambert is also the film composer for 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture, a documentary about the mistranslation of the word “homosexual” in the bible. 1946 won the Audience Award at both Doc NYC and OutFEST and broke records for the most viewed film in Doc NYC history. She lives between Seattle and Western Massachusetts with her dog, Georgie.

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Originally formed in 1985 as a Black Flag-influenced hardcore punk band called Virulence, FU MANCHU has since become one of hard rock’s most celebrated names. The band released its first single “Kept Between Trees” in 1990 and in the years following, helped give rise to an iconic style of heavy music born out of the desert and tagged “stoner rock” alongside peers such as Kyuss, Monster Magnet and Sleep.

Since the band’s inception, the quartet has built itself a fanatical army of loyal enthusiasts all drawn to the group’s guitar-driven sound and carefree lyrics centered on “old muscle cars, choppers, vans, skateboarding and science fiction.” Over their career, the band has released 13 albums and has performed to sold out audiences all over the world.

2024 marks another first for the “fuzz rock” pioneers with the release of their 14th album, The Return Of Tomorrow, their first double album of new material. Conceived as vinyl listening experience, the first LP features 7 songs in their iconic heavy fuzz sound including the first single, “Hands Of The Zodiac” and the relentlessly catchy “Loch Ness Wrecking Machine.” The second LP sees the band mellowing out with 6 slower tempo jams including the synth inflected “Solar Baptized” and the title track. Both LPs are 45RPM for the thickest possible sound. Digital listeners need not worry, as the CD, download and streaming versions of the album are mastered specifically for those formats.

In the 6 years since their last album of new material, Scott Hill, Brad Davis, Bob Balch and Scott Reeder released a live album, 6 reissues, 3 new EPs and the soundtrack to Glen E. Friedman’s documentary, A Look Back - Dogtown & Z-Boys, in addition to a rigorous touring schedule. The Kings of The Road aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Come celebrate the vinyl release of greaterkind’s “Change Of Plans” LP on Albina Music Trust with support from Lo Steele & Omari Jazz (DJ Set).

Rooted in Portland, Oregon, this fearless foursome has boldly paved a lane of their own design. Daring to shift the paradigm, the quartet blends a myriad of styles seamlessly into a forceful singularity of sound, bound to captivate and inspire. Outside of their own magnetic and spirited live performances, greaterkind has shared stages with the likes of MonoNeon, Judith Hill, Ghost-Note, Brian Jackson and The Hamiltones. On the brink of releasing their own debut record this summer, the band continues to humbly trek into fresh musical territories with both spunk and soul.

This event is made possible in part with the support from the Regional Arts & Culture Council and KMHD.
